OFC 2026 News: QCi and Ciena show Quantum-safe Networks

With a live high-speed encryption demonstration at OFC 2026, QCi and Ciena close the gap to quantum-safe networks.

OFC 2026 News

A significant collaboration between Quantum Computing Inc. (QCi) and Ciena is taking center stage as the telecom industry gathers for the OFC 2026 conference, promising to rewrite data protection standards in the upcoming quantum era. The two tech titans unveiled a combined live demonstration of a next-generation security architecture with the goal of protecting global networks from both present cyberattacks and potential quantum-enabled vulnerabilities.

A Multi-Layered Defense for the Quantum Age

The presentation, which takes place in the Corporate Village at Booth #5355, features an all-encompassing security system that goes beyond conventional encryption techniques. This approach is based on the combination of high-performance AES-256-GCM optical encryption with Quantum Key Distribution (QKD), quantum identity authentication, and classical authentication.

This multi-layered strategy is especially designed to reduce the catastrophic dangers associated with future quantum computers that can execute Shor’s algorithm, which might undermine the cryptographic underpinnings of contemporary digital communication. QCi and Ciena are offering a model for robust, practical network deployments by fusing optical-layer encryption with both quantum-secure and post-quantum cryptographic (PQC) methods.

High-Speed Performance Meets Quantum Security

Ciena’s Waveserver platform, which is used to safeguard sensitive data at large sizes, is a crucial part of the presentation. The technology ensures that the switch to quantum-safe standards does not affect network performance by offering optical AES-256-GCM encryption that can scale up to 1.6 Tb/s.

Paulina Gomez, Senior Advisor of Portfolio Marketing at Ciena, asserts that the transition to quantum-safe communications is a pressing need rather than a far-off goal. Gomez emphasized that their “easy-to-deploy solution” provides high-speed security “straight out of the box,” enabling network operators to safeguard vital in-flight data while also being ready for a future when quantum innovations will rule. Additionally, the system complies with international standards by supporting NIST-certified PQC algorithms and utilizing an ETSI-standard API to provide smooth communication with other QKD systems.

QCi’s Innovative Core Technologies

QCi’s involvement in the collaboration makes use of its knowledge in integrated photonics and quantum optics. They have a novel time-frequency entanglement-based QKD design. Compared to many laboratory-bound quantum technologies, this architecture is more appropriate for implementation inside current infrastructure because it provides improved stability through the use of telecom-band photons.

Additionally, QCi’s unique Quantum Identity Authentication utilizing Quantum Zero Knowledge Proof (QZEK-P) is incorporated into the system. This hardware-based implementation’s importance as a confirmed advancement in secure identity verification was already acknowledged with the 2023 Edison Patent Award. This partnership is critical to advancing quantum-secured communications “from theory to deployment,” according to Pouya Dianat, Chief Revenue Officer of QCi.

Technical Proficiency and Strategic Development

QCi is expanding quickly at the moment of the agreement. The business successfully completed the acquisition of Luminar Semiconductor, Inc. in February 2026, which greatly advanced its technical plan. Through this purchase, QCi’s production capacity was increased, and its knowledge in photonics and optics systems, subsystems, and components was strengthened.

QCi is still committed to delivering “accessible and affordable quantum machines,” particularly through its foundry services that create thin-film lithium niobate (TFLN)-based photonic devices. A competitive advantage that makes high-performance quantum instruments more feasible for a wider range of applications, such as cybersecurity, remote sensing, and artificial intelligence, is that these devices are made to function at ambient temperature and with minimal power consumption.

Encouraging the AI Era

As Ciena continues its role as a global leader in high-speed connection, the integration of quantum-secured protocols is considered as an essential progression for sustaining the exponential rise in bandwidth demand. Ciena seeks to enable its partners to prosper in a time increasingly characterized by artificial intelligence (AI) and the requirement for data integrity by utilizing cutting-edge networking technologies and automation software.

In addition to being a technological demonstration, the joint demonstration at OFC 2026 serves as a warning to the industry that the foundation for a quantum-safe future is being constructed right now. The consequences for companies and network operators managing sensitive data are evident: the instruments for quantum-resistant communication are now commercially accessible and ready for practical implementation, even though watching the demonstration needs prior clearance.
