National Cyber Security Center Bahrain Partners SandboxAQ

In a historic cybersecurity agreement, Bahrain leads the world’s transition to a quantum-safe economy.

National Cyber Security Center Bahrain, and SandboxAQ

National Cyber Security Center Bahrain (NCSC) has established a strategic relationship with SandboxAQ, putting the Kingdom at the forefront of the worldwide competition for future-proof digital security. By establishing a framework for cybersecurity modernization on a national level, this historic partnership hopes to make Bahrain one of the first nations in the world to implement post-quantum protection on a national level.

The cooperation aims for a quantum-safe economy for the Kingdom. Bahrain will use SandboxAQ’s cutting-edge artificial intelligence and quantum-resistant technology to defend its critical systems, infrastructure, and data from increased quantum computing.

Racing Against “Q-Day”

The imminence of this project stems from the imminence of the milestone known as “Q-Day”—the moment when cryptographically relevant quantum computers (CRQCs) can break existing encryption standards. CRQCs may be possible as early as 2029, according to recent predictions, but experts previously saw this as a far-off issue.

But the danger is more than just a potential issue. As we know, “harvest-now, decrypt-later” attacks are becoming more common. As quantum technology advances, enemies in these cases will take and store encrypted data with the intention of decrypting it later. The stakes for a sovereign state like Bahrain are particularly high because this might reveal defense information, diplomatic cables, sensitive communications, and national identification documents that have been preserved for decades.

Bringing the Post-Quantum Era to Life

The implementation of SandboxAQ’s AQtive Guard platform is essential to Bahrain’s defence strategy. This AI-powered system was created especially to handle the challenging post-quantum cryptography (PQC) transition. The National Cyber Security Center Bahrain has full visibility, evaluation, and repair capabilities for vulnerabilities resulting from inadequate encryption on the platform.

The quick spread of AI agents and non-human identities (NHIs) is a major issue this deployment attempts to address. Keeping these non-human creatures under control becomes a crucial security layer as digital ecosystems get increasingly automated. With its deployment across over 60 different ministry environments across the Kingdom, the AQtive Guard platform will exhibit a level of cryptographic control that is uncommon in national cybersecurity.

His Excellence The National Cyber Security Center Bahrain’s CEO, Shaikh Salman bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, highlighted that the collaboration is a “significant milestone” in protecting digital assets and intellectual property from both internal and foreign threats. These technologies will lay the foundation for a new era of security and economic growth in the Kingdom, he said.

Creating a Benchmark in the Region

The collaboration creates a dynamic architecture that enables Bahrain to adjust as new cryptographic threats arise, going beyond simply updating software. Bahrain was commended for “operationalizing” the technology instead of only establishing policies, according to Mohammed Aboul-Magd, vice president of product at SandboxAQ. In the Middle East, this proactive approach is anticipated to establish a new standard for cyber resilience.

One of the main tenets of Bahrain’s long-term plan to promote safe digital transformation and guarantee economic stability is this project. By joining the UNICC AI Hub on Post-Quantum Cryptography as a founding member, SandboxAQ is bringing international knowledge to Manama to safeguard the most delicate private and public sector systems in the Kingdom.

SandboxAQ’s Lineage

SandboxAQ is a separate, growth-backed business that was born out of Alphabet Inc. It focusses on how AI and quantum methods interact, using Large Quantitative Models (LQMs) to propel advancements in a range of fields, such as materials science and the biological sciences.

The company’s strategic alliance with NVIDIA and a distinguished group of investors highlight its stability and power. Ray Dalio, Marc Benioff, Eric Schmidt, and funds advised by BNP Paribas, Paladin Capital, and T. Rowe Price Associates are among them.

An analogy for comprehending the importance of this change is to picture a kingdom that has stored its most priceless secrets in a vault that is secured with an intricate physical lock. They have found that a “master key” (quantum computing) capable of opening every lock in the world will be created in a few years. The kingdom is currently upgrading every lock in every government facility with a new kind of “quantum-safe” lock that cannot be turned by the master key, rather than waiting for the master key to appear. This guarantees that even if the “vaults” (data) are taken today, thieves will never be able to access them after the master key is eventually created.
