Anyon Systems Partners With C2MI to Power Q Chip Production

C2MI and Anyon Systems Collaborate to Open a World-Class Quantum Chip Facility in Quebec

Montreal-based quantum computer company Anyon Systems Inc. has been named the anchor partner for a new industrial-grade quantum fabrication facility, marking a historic step that will put Canada at the vanguard of the global quantum technology race. A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) has been inked by the firm and the MiQro Innovation Collaborative Centre (C2MI) to jointly construct the cutting-edge facility in Bromont, Québec. Through this partnership, Canada and Québec will become a global center for producing superconducting quantum chips, creating enormous new prospects in the quickly growing quantum economy.

A Strategic Collaboration for Quantum Supremacy

C2MI’s development plans includes the 2026 opening of the “quantum fab,” a quantum fabrication facility. Both the federal and provincial governments of Canada support the project, emphasizing its national strategic importance.

C2MI has been working closely with Anyon Systems, the first Canadian firm to produce gate-based quantum computing platforms, on this project for the last four years since its founding in 2014. The collaboration is more than just a contract; Anyon has played a crucial role in the early phases, helping to design the workplace and choose essential machinery required to manufacture the best superconducting chips in the business.

Anyon will use the facility to create its next-generation products and use its vast knowledge of superconducting quantum nanofabrication to train C2MI’s first team of quantum nanofabrication professionals. By transferring this knowledge, C2MI will be able to support fabrication for additional external users, guaranteeing that the Bromont hub emerges as one of North America’s premier hubs for quantum microfabrication.

FABrIC, a strategic federal investment aimed at accelerating quantum and semiconductor manufacturing in the nation, the Canadian National Quantum Strategy, and the Next Generation Manufacturing Canada (NGen) supercluster all strongly support this initiative.

Advancing Fault-Tolerant Quantum Computing

Dr. Alireza Yazdi, Anyon Systems’ founder and CEO, said he was extremely proud of the ongoing partnership. This initiative will enable Anyon to continue its progress towards fault-tolerant quantum computing by enabling the production of next-generation qubit architectures, the CEO said. The field’s ultimate goal is fault-tolerant quantum computing, which would enable quantum computers to overcome mistakes and address issues that are currently beyond the capabilities of even the most potent classical supercomputers.

Producing these next-generation qubit designs and creating advanced nanofabrication and 3D packaging techniques for superconducting circuits will be the main objectives of the new facility. To create quantum processors that are more robust and powerful, this improved manufacturing capability is necessary.

It will create incredible opportunities for quantum-focused research, innovation, commercial activities and workforce development in Québec and Canada for many years to come, Dr. Yazdi added, highlighting the quantum fab’s wider effects.

A Foundation for Future Technologies

The alliance was characterized as a “significant milestone” in Canada’s aim to become a global leader in the crucial technological sector of producing quantum chips by Marie-Josée Turgeon, CEMI CEO. Since C2MI has top-notch facilities in fields like advanced semiconductor packaging and micro-electro-mechanical systems (MEMS), it plays a significant role in speeding up the commercialization of digital technology components.

The effort will be a basis for large technology development projects that will progress areas such as quantum computing and artificial intelligence (AI), Turgeon stressed. “Deliver innovative solutions to address complex challenges in today’s world,” she stated, highlighting the revolutionary potential of these integrated technologies.

Bolstering Canada’s Quantum Ecosystem

By addressing a crucial gap in the quantum supply chain, this industrial-scale manufacturing facility enhances Canada’s local capabilities. The Bromont fab will assist a broad ecosystem of researchers, innovators, and commercial firms by offering a local, top-tier, quantum chip production resource. The objectives of the Canadian National Quantum Strategy will be ideally aligned with this, as it will promote the creation of jobs and the development of a highly qualified workforce proficient in quantum technology.

The relationship between pioneering private company Anyon Systems and collaborative research center C2MI is a prime example of the type of public-private partnership required to propel deep-tech innovation and gain a competitive edge in the global marketplace. Bromont will be closely watched as it solidifies its position as a key component of North America’s quantum corridor as the 2026 operating date draws near.
