Quandela Company and OVHcloud Promote European Quantum

In this article, we will know that, OVHcloud and Quandela Company collaborate to deliver scalable Quantum-as-a-Service with the Belenos QPU.

The top cloud provider in the region, OVHcloud, has announced the immediate availability of Quandela’s “Belenos” quantum computer on its public cloud platform in an effort to accelerate the European quantum sector. The news, which was presented at the Quantum Defence Summit, represents a critical turning point in the development of a flexible, independent infrastructure that will enable a wide range of industrial and scientific users to access high-end quantum processing capacity.

Expanding the Quantum-as-a-Service Frontier

The OVHcloud Quantum Platform was first introduced last fall, and Belenos is the second reference quantum computer to be incorporated into it. OVHcloud is attempting to demystify this innovative technology and reduce the barrier to entry for both private organizations and researchers by utilizing a Quantum-as-a-Service (QaaS) consumption model.

With a computation capability of 12 qubits, Quandela’s cutting-edge photonic quantum technology powers the Belenos system. As a leading producer of state-of-the-art quantum solutions, Quandela specializes in photonic systems, which use light particles (photons) to execute calculations, in contrast to traditional quantum systems that would need sophisticated cryogenic settings.

This hardware’s integration is made to be as flexible as possible. Pay-as-you-go pricing is used to provide access to the Belenos Quantum Processing Unit (QPU), with fees determined per second. The fact that this service doesn’t require a long-term commitment is crucial for commercial users because it enables quick testing without the capital outlay usually associated with quantum gear.

Unlocking New Industrial Use Cases

It is anticipated that the availability of 12-qubit photonic computation capacity would spur innovation in a number of high-stakes businesses. Belenos is especially well-suited for testing novel algorithms in a number of cutting-edge fields:

  • Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning: The system is designed to sort and generate images, as well as speed AI calculus and Quantum Machine Learning (QML).
  • Simulations and Physics: The system’s capabilities can be advantageous to industries engaged in engine combustion, structural mechanics, and electromagnetic modeling.
  • Environmental and Materials Science: The compute capacity can also be used in fields that need to process large, complicated information, such as earth observation, meteorology, and material simulation.

Quandela’s CEO and co-founder Niccolò Somaschi called the integration a “decisive step for quantum in Europe,” pointing out that it gives data scientists a “flexible and sovereign infrastructure” on which to build algorithms.

A Multi-Layered Approach to Quantum Adoption

OVHcloud’s approach to quantum computing goes beyond just giving users access to raw hardware. By providing the largest selection of quantum emulators available, the Group has been fostering a strong European quantum ecosystem since 2022. There are currently 15 reasonably priced emulators available on the market, including popular programs like Perceval and MerLin.

Over a thousand people have already used these emulators, which start at 0.03 euros per hour. Before moving on to full-fledged quantum hardware like Belenos, OVHcloud helps users become more comfortable with various quantum computing models by offering these software-based simulations of quantum hardware.

“The quantum revolution accelerates and OVHcloud is taking its part as the European Cloud leader within the ecosystem,” said Miroslaw Klaba, R&D Director at OVHcloud, highlighting the rapidity of this transformation.

Strategic Importance and Data Sovereignty

The foundation of OVHcloud and Quandela’s collaboration is their mutual dedication to European technical freedom. OVHcloud, a multinational player with over 500,000 servers spread across 46 data centers, takes pride in an integrated approach that ensures control over its whole value chain, from server design and data center building to the orchestration of its own fiber-optic network.

The goal of this “trusted cloud” strategy is to give clients total data sovereignty while guaranteeing the protection of sensitive industrial research and quantum algorithms in accordance with European regulations. The Group also emphasizes its “environmentally conscious model,” which emphasizes resource conservation and keeps one of the finest carbon footprint ratios in the sector.

About the Partners

With 1.6 million clients across more than 140 countries, OVHcloud has been a leader in the cloud sector for more than 20 years. The business is renowned for providing high-performing solutions with consistent pricing and an emphasis on sustainability.

Quandela, a French company, specializes in producing cloud-accessible processors and ready-to-use quantum computers for data centers. To tackle difficult social and industrial issues, like those covered at the most recent Quantum Defence Summit, the company is committed to make quantum computing accessible.

Both businesses are fulfilling the promise of the OVHcloud Quantum Platform to facilitate the expanding adoption of innovative technologies inside both public and private enterprises by making the Belenos 12-qubit system available today.
