Photonic West 2026 Showcases Advances in Quantum Security

Coherent Corp. Redefines Photonics Frontier at Photonics West 2026: From Quantum-Safe Security to Advanced Material Innovation

Photonic West 2026

During the annual SPIE Photonics West event, which will take place from January 20–22, 2026, and bring together the worldwide photonics community, Coherent Corp. (NYSE: COHR) has established itself as a leader in the field. The renowned photonics leader has used the esteemed location to present an extensive portfolio of advancements aimed at enabling the next generation of semiconductor production, life sciences, and AI datacenters.

The main feature of this year’s presentation is a ground-breaking partnership with quantum technology company Quside that produced the first hardware-based, mass-manufacturable quantum entropy source. With this accomplishment, quantum-grade randomness moves from specialized applications to the general public, marking an important turning point in digital security.

A Quantum Leap in Scalable Security

Scalability and cost have long been obstacles to the integration of quantum technology into common electronics. But a solution that makes use of Coherent well-established 6-inch Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Laser (VCSEL) production platform has been presented by Coherent and Quside. The partners have developed a system that can provide quick, runtime-verifiable entropy by fusing this volume-proven production with Quside’s quantum random number generation technology.

The production of the superior cryptographic keys needed for quantum-safe encryption and crypto-agile systems depends on this technology. The partnership demonstrates how advanced photonic systems can satisfy the exacting cost and dependability standards required for widespread market adoption, according to Dr. Giovanni Barbarossa, Chief Strategy Officer at Coherent. The common processors, secure components, and hardware roots of trust can now directly incorporate these quantum-grade security primitives.

Advanced Materials and Thermal Management

Coherent is showcasing its breadth in cutting-edge materials, particularly addressing the cooling needs of high-performance computers, in addition to quantum security. Managing waste heat has become a crucial constraint as GPUs and AI accelerators becoming more potent. Coherent has responded by introducing Bondable diamond heat spreaders. These ultra-high thermal conductivity solutions are perfect for cooling GPUs in AI datacenters because of their surface finishes, which work with a variety of bonding approaches.

A live demonstration of Thermo-Electric Generation, a device that transforms waste heat into useful power, is also described. To meet the increasing energy needs of the digital age, this innovation seeks to improve the efficiency of both datacenters and industrial activities.

Precision Manufacturing and Semiconductor Innovation

The introductions targeted at improving throughput and resolution are drawing a lot of attention to the semiconductor and precision manufacturing industries. Highlights include:

  • EOM for Via Drilling: For high-throughput PCB thru drilling in semiconductor production, this CO2 Electro-Optic Modulator is the only high-power beam switching option that is devoid of Germanium.
  • Deep UV (DUV) Solutions: Coherent is showcasing a novel configuration for film cutting in display and semi-cap applications that combines cutting-edge optics with a 266nm picosecond DUV laser.
  • Sapphire XT: A small visible laser with an integrated controller for super-resolution microscopy and imaging utilized in quantum sensing and semiconductor inspection.

The FieldMax Touch Laser Power & Energy Meter provides a durable handheld option for people working in production settings; the Pro model can measure pulse energy at 1 kHz. Furthermore, the Waveshaper 1000A Sharp offers incredibly fine spectrum control, enabling arbitrary forms in attenuation and phase with a precision as thin as 5 GHz (FWHM).

Advancing Life Sciences and Clinical Imaging

It Coherent has made significant advancements in medical technology. The new OCT Specialty Fiber Assemblies are designed to be ideal for near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) and optical coherence tomography (OCT). These assemblies offer improved dependability for high-value clinical applications where accuracy is crucial and are designed for use in multimodal catheter-based imaging systems.

Thought Leadership and Technical Expertise

Experts from Coherent are also sharing research that “redefines technological boundaries” at Photonics West 2026. Coherent’s Chief Marketing Officer, Dr. Sanjai Parthasarathi, took part in a prominent panel discussion about Co-Packaged Optics for data infrastructure.

Several in-depth presentations from Coherent researchers are part of the technical program:

  • Joshua Bradford gave a talk about compact form factor Er:Yb co-doped fiber amplifiers and single-mode operation in Tm-doped fibers for 2μm applications.
  • Robin Rammelsberg talked on the fusion industry’s use of Pulsed Laser Deposition (PLD) to produce HTS-tapes on a massive scale.
  • High-performance potassium terbium fluoride (KTF) crystals for magneto-optic isolation in inertial fusion energy were introduced by Alexander Fox.
  • Vartan V. Ter-Mikirtychev discussed advancements in Yb-doped fiber lasers’ high-power, low-noise harmonics in the visible and ultraviolet spectrum.
  • Er-doped fibers for C- and L-band applications were the subject of a composition research by Clemence Jollivet.

The Future of the Industry

Coherent, which was founded in 1971 and now operates in more than 20 countries, uses its extensive technology stack to tackle challenging problems. Industry leaders may “shape a shared vision for the future” at this event, Dr. Parthasarathi emphasized.

Coherent Corp. is proving that the manipulation of photons will become more and more important in the future of technology by exhibiting anything from quantum cryptography to fusion energy materials. Live demonstrations of DUV laser systems and programmable optical filters will allow attendees of their stand at Photonics West to get a firsthand look at these technologies.

The conclude that Coherent and Quside are now opening the door for high-volume commercial deployment of quantum entropy solutions intended for real-world, large-scale secure infrastructure, with manufacturing-ready components and established production procedures.
