A Quantum Leap for Private Enterprise: IQM to Deploy 54-Qubit System at Poland’s Galaxy Systemy Informatyczne

The first-ever deployment of a quantum computer to a private company has been announced by IQM Quantum Computers, marking a significant commercial milestone for the worldwide quantum computing environment. The first private company in the world to buy and use the cutting-edge 54-qubit IQM Radiance system is Galaxy Systemy Informatyczne, a three-decade-old Polish provider of IT solutions. This deal, which was made public on April 2026, represents a significant change in the quantum business as high-performance quantum gear is transferred from government and academic research facilities to data centers in the private sector.

The Details of the Deployment

This hybrid integrated quantum computer will be installed in Galaxy’s headquarters in Zielona Góra, Poland, in the fourth quarter of 2026. The hardware, which is expected to become the most cutting-edge quantum infrastructure in the country, will be delivered and installed by IQM under the conditions of the agreement. This deployment is a deliberate extension of Galaxy’s current strengths in security, digitization, and high-performance computing (HPC), not just a purchase. Galaxy hopes to influence Poland’s data-driven economy by incorporating quantum processing into their operations and utilizing artificial intelligence and data-intensive infrastructure.

The Radiance System: A Technological Milestone

The IQM Radiance, a system with 54 qubits that makes use of superconducting quantum computing technology, is at the center of this agreement. The Radiance system was created by IQM, which is regarded as a world leader in this field, to provide industry-leading fidelities. These high fidelities are essential for carrying out intricate quantum algorithms that can solve practical issues in ways that traditional computers are unable to.

Poland is now positioned among important European quantum centers with the 54-qubit configuration, which signifies a substantial increase in power. The Leibniz Supercomputing Centre (LRZ) in Germany, the VTT Technical Research Centre in Finland, CINECA in Italy, and CESGA in Spain were among the esteemed public institutions where IQM had effectively implemented Radiance systems prior to this private sale. As they continue to provide physical hardware to an expanding list of international clients, the deployment at Galaxy strengthens IQM’s dominant market position.

Technological Sovereignty and Data Security

The desire for technical sovereignty is a major factor in Galaxy’s choice to house an on-site quantum computer. The CEO of Galaxy Systemy Informatyczne, Jacek Michalski, emphasized that having this cutting-edge technology on-site enables the business and consequently, the Polish digital economy to maintain its independence from outside cloud service providers.

Processing sensitive data locally is a big benefit in a time when national security and data privacy are crucial. Michalski pointed out that the creation of sensitive algorithms and applications need the maximum level of security for processed data, which is ensured by this configuration. This independence is a “turning point” that guarantees the establishment of research labs for scientific and commercial advancement without depending on third-party cloud infrastructure.

Industrial and Academic Impact

It is anticipated that the deployment will have a significant impact outside of Galaxy’s data center. By bridging the gap between academic research and industrial application, the 54-qubit system will benefit a wide spectrum of users. Galaxy and IQM are creating a local quantum ecosystem that promotes talent development and innovation across several industries by giving access to such advanced gear.

This project is in line with Poland’s well-established, respected traditions in computer science, mathematics, and quantum physics. Building such an ecosystem is a top priority, according to Jan Goetz, CEO and co-founder of IQM Quantum Computers, who pointed out that each on-premises installation makes the future “more tangible” for clients who have hands-on experience with their own infrastructure.

Targeted Applications: Space, Finance, and Energy

Galaxy plans to use the Radiance system for critical calculations in a number of important industries where they are already well-established.

  • Space Technology: Complex computations pertaining to the space industry will be supported by the quantum computer.
  • Financial Markets: High-speed computations and modeling in the financial sector could be revolutionized by quantum algorithms.
  • Energy Sector: The system will facilitate computations that are crucial to the energy market, most likely with an emphasis on grid management and optimization.
