Casimir Inc Launches Quantum Energy Chip Funding Round

Casimir Inc Launches Quantum Energy Chip Funding Round

Casimir Inc. has officially launched with a $12 million oversubscribed seed round. Promising a future of “persistent power” extracted directly from the quantum vacuum, the business, headed by former NASA advanced délicate researcher Dr. Harold “Sonny” White, intends to provide the first quantum energy chip to the commercial market.

A New Frontier in Power Generation

The Houston-based business wants to fundamentally change the way devices are fueled. Casimir’s technique makes use of the Casimir effect, a phenomenon in quantum physics where vacuum fields between closely spaced surfaces can generate physical force and, as Casimir has shown, usable electrical energy, rather without chemical reactions (batteries) or external grids (cords).

The MicroSparc chip, the company’s flagship product, is a miniaturization marvel. Measuring just 5mm × 5mm, the chip is designed to produce 1.5 volts at 25 microamps. These values seem modest, but they’re comparable to a small rechargeable battery. MicroSparcs don’t degrade like batteries and don’t need to be recharged or replaced.

“Millions of devices will operate for years without a battery ever needing to be replaced or recharged because we have engineered a customized Casimir cavity into hardware capable of producing persistent electrical power,” said Dr. White.

Investor Confidence and Strategic Support

Scout Ventures led the seeds, which raised $12 million, exceeding the $8 million goal. This oversubscription shows investor interest in overcoming energy density and lifetime, two of technology’s biggest challenges. Lavrock Ventures, Cottonwood Technology, Capital Factory, American Deep Tech, and renowned venture capitalist Tim Draper of Draper Associates have joined Scout Ventures in this round.

Scout Ventures’ founder and managing partner, Brad Harrison, highlighted the lengthy scientific journey that brought us to this point. “This is based on 100 years of science and we’re finally approaching a commercial product,” Harrison said. Dr. White’s ability to “pull pieces from different domains of research and engineer them together into working hardware” was commended by him.

Specifically, dual-use technologies innovations that support both commercial and national security interests are the focus of Scout Ventures. Casimir’s battery-free energy affects the military’s capacity to “shoot, move, and communicate” without the logistical burden of big battery supply, making it an ideal fit for this role.

From NASA and Interstellar Dreams to Reality

Advanced space science underpins Casimir. Limitless Space Institute (LSI), a charity supporting global travel, advanced the technology. The founder of Axiom Space and Intuitive Machines, Dr. Kam Ghaffarian, founded LSI.

Dr. White, Director of Advanced Research and Development at LSI, studied advanced driving at NASA for almost twenty years. During this time, his studies of the dynamic quantum vacuum started to come together into the hardware designs that Casimir is currently selling.

A $67 Billion Roadmap

Casimir is not content with little sensors. Although the $10 billion ultra-low-power electronics market, which includes wearables, embedded sensors, and tire pressure monitoring systems, is the initial market for the MicroSparc chip, the company’s plan is much more ambitious.

As technology advances, Casimir intends to transition into:

  • Consumer Electronics: Eliminating the need to charge smartphones or laptops.
  • Mobility Platforms: Providing persistent power for electric vehicles (EVs).
  • Infrastructure: Ultimately developing large-scale systems capable of powering entire homes and commercial buildings.

By taking this route, Casimir can access a market that is worth more than $67 billion. Furthermore, Casimir’s battery-free architecture provides a special solution for autonomous systems and permanent memory as Artificial Intelligence (AI) continues to create a large need for low-latency, “always-on” computing at the edge.

National Security and “Made in America”

Casimir highlights its position as a “proudly American-made” business in addition to its commercial possibilities. The company, which has its headquarters in Houston, Texas, is actively working with government and academic partners. The capacity to produce electricity without depending on international supply chains for battery materials is a major strategic advantage in a time when energy independence is a top objective for national security.

The Path to 2028

Casimir will fast the optimization of its chip performance with the additional cash. By 2028, the business hopes to have the first-generation MicroSparc chip commercially available.

The journey from theoretical quantum physics to a deployed hardware product is notoriously difficult, but Casimir’s leadership remains confident. As Dr. White concluded, his decades of research have finally provided the tools to “bring abundant power to the world”.
