Bradford Quantum Hackathon 2025 Begins to Investigate Quantum Answers to World Problems

Bradford Quantum Hackathon 2025

The Bradford Quantum Hackathon 2025 has formally begun, issuing a global call to action for innovators to create quantum-enabled solutions to some of the most pressing problems facing society. With the help of the open collaboration platform Aqora and hosted by Quantinuum and the University of Bradford, the event links the state-of-the-art in science with significant practical applications. On October 27, 2025, the hybrid tournament will start with online sessions, and on November 21, 2025, it will end with a final ceremony held in Bradford.

Quantum Solutions for Sustainable Development

Health, transportation, banking, logistics, sustainable energy, and environment are just a few of the industries that the hackathon is focused on solving real-world problems. Crucially, every track is closely linked to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the UN, illustrating the power of quantum methods to influence society.

The specific tracks identified include:

  • Health and Wellbeing
  • Reduced Inequalities
  • Economic Growth
  • Clean Energy
  • Industry and Infrastructure
  • Climate Action

The opportunity to interact with a technology that can provide new capabilities and enable the creation of solutions that were previously unimaginable is extended to participants. Using collaborative sprints, webinars, and mentorship sessions, teams of professionals, researchers, and students will apply quantum approaches to real-world use cases throughout the course of the four-week program. This includes creating hybrid quantum-classical workflows, modeling optimization issues, and investigating the creation of new algorithms. The ultimate objective is to speed up quantum computing and make its advantages available to everyone.

Timeline and Location Details

On October 27, 2025, the first webinar will be held to kick off the virtual part of the hackathon process. Team building, mentoring, and webinars are all part of this virtual phase, which lasts from late October until mid-November. There will be a mid-evaluation point in early November.

On November 21, 2025, the on-site finals and closing ceremony mark the end of the event. The venue for the grand finale is Bradford Live, which is situated at 1 Thornton Road, Bradford, BD1 2EP, UK. Late November and early December are the dates for follow-up meetings with partners.

The Role of Aqora in Fostering Collaboration

As an open collaboration portal for quantum datasets, algorithms, and community challenges, Aqora will host and support the competition workflow in its entirety. The event has a comprehensive and open infrastructure Aqora’s digital platform.

This comprehensive platform facilitates:

  • Registration and team formation.
  • Hosting of datasets and algorithms.
  • Evaluation pipelines.
  • Public leaderboards.
  • Mentoring and team tools.

Powering the event provides an opportunity to “publish datasets, benchmark algorithms, and collaborate on use cases that matter” in an open and large-scale manner during the International Year of Quantum, according to Jannes Stubbemann, CEO and co-founder of Aqora. The competition procedure is auditable the system.

Celebrating Quantum’s Century in the City of Culture

Bradford’s designation as the UK City of Culture 2025 and the United Nations’ International Year of Quantum Science and Technology (IYQ 2025) are two significant anniversaries that are celebrated simultaneously at the Bradford Quantum Hackathon 2025, making it unique. The occasion commemorates the establishment of quantum theory 100 years ago.

Bradford is now establishing itself within the progression of the quantum revolution, having been historically molded by its involvement in the Industrial Revolution of the 18th Century. The hackathon brings the international quantum community to Bradford, drawing a natural comparison between the city’s previous breakthroughs in the textile industry and its future significance in industries molded by creativity and technology. The Hackathon brings science and technology to Bradford’s exciting mix of events, performances, and exhibitions, celebrating its remarkable heritage as the UK City of Culture 2025.

An Open Invitation to Diverse Innovators

The organizers stress that innovators of all backgrounds are welcome to participate, and that participation is not restricted to quantum experts in particular. Combining technological expertise with innovative problem-solving techniques is encouraged by the hackathon. Teams from fields like computer science, business, engineering, design, and artificial intelligence are welcome to participate.

The hackathon seeks to illustrate how quantum methods might enhance traditional technologies. Technical tools, training webinars, and industry mentors will be available to participants as they investigate the useful applications of quantum computing. Every technical skill level of teams is challenged in the competition.

Prizes and Follow-On Opportunities

Several categories will share the substantial £25,000 prize fund that innovators will be vying for. Teams that exhibit the most creative and useful solutions will be given mentorship and the opportunity to follow up with event partners in addition to the financial incentives. Several showcasing chances and mentorship are among these advantages.

The University of Bradford, a research-intensive public university known for its work in engineering, computing, and sustainable development, Quantinuum, one of the world’s integrated quantum computing companies, and Aqora, a global platform that promotes open collaboration in quantum computing, are collaborating on the hackathon.
