QuiX Quantum invest €15M for single-photon Quantum computer

QuiX Quantum

The successful completion of a €15 million Series A investment round has been announced by QuiX Quantum, a Dutch leader in photonic quantum computing. The company’s ambitious goal to develop the first single-photon-based universal quantum computer by 2026 is expected to be accelerated by this significant funding infusion.

Two well-known investors, Invest-NL and the EIC Fund, co-led the investment round. Current investors showed their continuous faith in QuiX Quantum’s cutting-edge technology by taking part, including Photon Ventures, Oost NL, and FORWARD.one. The European Innovation Council (EIC) Accelerator program, a major European Commission initiative aimed at assisting businesses that develop and upend markets with their game-changing technology, provided earlier support for this Series A funding.

Driving Universality and Fault-Tolerance

Getting QuiX Quantum to deploy its first-generation universal photonic quantum computer which is intended to implement a universal gate set by 2026 is the main goal of this recently obtained money. In order to get QuiX Quantum closer to its objective of producing large-scale, fault-tolerant quantum computers, this significant milestone introduces universality, a characteristic that is vital.
The CEO of QuiX Quantum, Dr.-Ing.

Stefan Hengesbach, highlighted the money’s strategic significance by saying, “Our Series A funding round fuels mission to further develop the core building blocks required for a fault-tolerant universal quantum computer.” With the 2026 system, the business hopes to “demonstrate universality by overcoming long-standing challenges in fast feed-forward electronics and single-photon sources,” he added, expanding on the immediate technological focus. A next-generation system is already scheduled for 2027, with a critical focus on error correction implementation, which has been highlighted as a critical step towards the realization of completely fault-tolerant quantum computers.

Leveraging Advanced Photonic Technology

The universal photonic quantum computers from QuiX Quantum process data in ways that are essentially distinct from those of classical computers by utilising the fundamental quantum concepts of superposition, entanglement, and interference. Systems based on silicon-nitride devices are key to their technology. From design, these chips are optimised for high-volume manufacture, scalability, and energy efficiency.

The operational environment of QuiX Quantum’s systems is a key benefit of its strategy. They are completely compatible with current data centre facilities and mostly function at ambient temperature. The growing need for more processing power and easily available quantum hardware for testing algorithms and use cases from data centres and end users is directly addressed by this compatibility. QuiX Quantum has a unique and exciting technological advantage because it is the only business in the Netherlands creating a quantum computer based on photonic silicon nitride chips.

A Track Record of Innovation and Delivery

QuiX Quantum was founded in 2019 and has rapidly become a top supplier of photonic quantum computing gear. The business has a history of producing quantum processors that break records. In 2022, QuiX Quantum made history by being the first firm in the world to offer the German Aerospace Centre (DLR QCI) 8-qubit and 64-qubit photonic quantum computers.

QuiX Quantum began cloud connectivity to its quantum systems in 2024, indicating its commitment to accessibility and real-world use. Through the creation of a hybrid computing platform, this project has brought near-term quantum computing to practical uses. In order to construct the most potent quantum computers, QuiX Quantum sees its industry-leading hardware and well-known quality as a strong technological foundation.

Transforming Industries with Unprecedented Computational Power

The technological breakthroughs made possible by QuiX Quantum hold the potential to unleash previously unheard-of processing power. Critical industries like IT, infrastructure, defence, and healthcare are anticipated to be significantly impacted in the near future by these systems.

The company thinks its quantum computers will transform advanced manufacturing, fraud detection, medication development, and chemical engineering. Additionally, they have the potential to facilitate advances in intricate fields like as data analysis, machine learning, molecular dynamics, and catalytic simulations. These skills can address issues in materials science, energy, and logistics that are well above the capability of today’s supercomputers.

Reinforcing European Leadership in Deep Tech

In addition to being essential for QuiX Quantum’s internal development, this funding round is strategically important for bolstering the European quantum technology supply chain. It greatly strengthens QuiX Quantum’s standing as a pioneer in the creation of the quantum photonic ecosystem on the continent.

This wider impact is clearly supported by investor viewpoints. Invest-NL co-lead investor Liz Duijves praised QuiX Quantum as “one of Europe’s most promising full-stack quantum computing companies, with a technology that can reshape critical sectors like healthcare, energy, and AI”, according to the company.

According to her, the funding not only spurs ground-breaking quantum technology research but also bolsters Europe’s leadership and the Netherlands’ vibrant deep tech sector. Supporting QuiX Quantum as it continues to “push the boundaries of quantum innovation and strengthen Europe’s leadership in this strategic field” is something that EIC Fund Board Chair Svetoslava Georgieva echoed. QuiX Quantum continues to advance quantum technology while catering to an expanding worldwide clientele from its five offices located around Europe.
