LuxQuanta Company Achieves CV-QKD with Oxigen Data Center

LuxQuanta Company News

Oxigen Data Center and LuxQuanta have announced the successful completion of a historic field deployment showcasing quantum-secure data center connectivity, a step that represents a paradigm change for European digital sovereignty. Continuous-Variable Quantum Key Distribution (CV-QKD) was used in this deployment, which was carried out in the center of Barcelona, to create a strong protection against present and potential cryptographic attacks. The achievement is seen as a crucial step toward the operationalization of Quantum Secure Infrastructure (QSI) throughout Europe, which integrates cutting-edge physics-based security straight into commercial data center settings to guarantee the long-term preservation of sensitive data.

The Proof of Concept: A Technical Milestone

Utilizing LuxQuanta’s own NOVA LQ CV-QKD technology, the Proof of Concept (PoC) was conducted in Oxigen’s current Barcelona facilities. The demonstration’s main goal was to highlight the system’s “Plug & Play” capabilities and demonstrate that quantum security may be applied without requiring a complete redesign of current network topologies. A number of crucial technological criteria were met by the deployment, such as the real-time creation of encryption keys generated from quantum technology in a high-performance data center setting.

The technology’s compatibility with conventional firewall encryptors was further proven by the technical validation. The solution made on-demand IPSec key rotation possible by employing industry-standard protocols, which is crucial for upholding high security requirements in real-time data transfers. The tests verified the stable coexistence of quantum and classical channels over Oxigen’s internal fiber infrastructure, which may be the most important finding. This guarantees that the capacity and performance of current data streams are not affected by quantum security measures. During resilience testing, the infrastructure successfully negotiated simulated fiber disconnections and high-key demand scenarios.

Protecting Mission-Critical Data

Oxigen Data Center has a secure connection between its facilities via fiber optics. The PoC concentrated on two facilities that support active-active disaster recovery designs and are situated around 25 kilometers apart. To ensure business continuity, these architectures require mission-critical workloads to be synchronized continuously and quickly. However, this constant exchange of private information between locations poses a risk that calls for sophisticated security.

Quantum computing technologies may weaken traditional encryption based on mathematical assumptions. QKD, on the other hand, uses quantum mechanics to secure cryptographic keys in a novel way. This shields data from “harvest now, decrypt later” attacks and stops illegal interception at the physical infrastructure level. Customers in industries including public administration, healthcare, energy, and defense are progressively requesting better levels of security for their digital exchanges, according to Jordi Montero, CEO of Oxigen Data Center, who underlined the importance of this development.

Strategic Vision for a Quantum-Safe Europe

The partnership between Oxigen and LuxQuanta is a deliberate attempt to establish data centers as security hubs for the contemporary era, rather than only a technical test. According to Vanesa Díaz, CEO of LuxQuanta, data centers are becoming strategic foundations of digital infrastructure rather than just basic hosting environments. She emphasized that operators can fortify vital data flows while being ready for the security issues of the quantum era by integrating QKD into current networks.

According to Oxigen, the validation shows that quantum-secure connectivity may be provided as a unique, high-end service. The capacity to offer high-assurance, quantum-safe protocols enables infrastructure providers to serve regulated and security-sensitive environments as traditional connection services become more commercialized. Montero stated that he was especially struck by how “deployment ready” the technology is, pointing out that the system started working as soon as the hardware units were installed and the network parameters were set.

Seamless Integration and Scalability

The assurance that LuxQuanta’s CV-QKD technology eliminates the need for expensive network redesigns was one of the most important lessons learned from the Barcelona deployment. The solution offers data centers an affordable way to improve their security posture by utilizing their current fiber infrastructure. LuxQuanta’s goal of making quantum security available to a variety of industries, including government and telecoms, is centered on this simplicity of integration.

The successful field deployment follows other remarkable milestones by LuxQuanta, including the validation of the NOVA LQ system in the MADQuantum Project in Madrid and live demonstrations at the AWS Singapore Innovation Hub . The development of CV-QKD from an experimental technology to an operational infrastructure that can safeguard international communications is highlighted by these combined efforts.

The Path Forward: Quantum-as-a-Service

In the future, Oxigen intends to investigate pilot programs with certain clients who need extremely secure connections between data center infrastructure and business locations. A number of prospective use cases, including secure colocation cross-connect services, quantum-secure Data Center Interconnect (DCI), and the defense of sovereign cloud backbones, are based on the verified architecture.

The need for performance, dependability, and security is only increasing as businesses continue their digital transition. The two businesses are raising the bar for safe and eco-friendly digital services in Europe by fusing LuxQuanta’s state-of-the-art quantum encryption with Oxigen’s dedication to sustainable, entirely renewable energy-powered infrastructure. This collaboration guarantees that the infrastructure supporting our most sensitive data is not only prepared but also robust as the era of quantum computing draws near.
